Hello Steve ,
Sorry, still trying to understand exactly what you're after.

Do you mean -
1) hide the Target from the menu if it is inactive? - This shouldnt normally happen; you can get this effect using (3) below though
2) hide the target from the summary graph if it is inactive? (grey out the summary if no active targets) - 2.19+ does this if 'active' option is set, apart from the bug if none are active which is fixed in 2.20b1
3) hide the target from the summary page if it is inactive? (2.19+ should do this if 'active' option set)
# 2 would be the (iirc) equivalent of the functionality of 2.18b5 .
If that is the case then htat is what I'd like to accomplish .
to have the same display that 2.18b5 would have done with 'actvie' set to yes .
Addition; #2 does not appear to be a definition of what 2.18b5 was accomplishing in my case , with "routers.cgi*Options[_]: active" in a .cfg file .
The summary graph would not be published if there was no traffic on that port . All of my switches have all there ports configured 'UP' so they are always active . But in many of them there is no traffic & in the summary graphs an unpopulated ports graph would be missing .

OK - this is how it is supposed to work - if you are not getting this behaviour, let me know:

1. Setting the 'active' option is only effective on user defined graphs, or userdefined summaries
2. You can set the 'active' option on the default Summary and Incoming/Outgoing graphs by using
routers.cgi*Summary: active
routers.cgi*InOut: active
3. If 'active' is set on a summary page, it will suppress any component targets which are not userdefined AND have a maximum data of zero for the graphed timeperiod
4. If 'active' is set on a userdefined graph, it will suppress any component targets which are not userdefined AND have a maximum data of zero for the graphed timeperiod
5. There is no way to suppress inactive items from the Targets menu (although I think the 'active' option on a normal Target should do this in the future)

Note that routers.cgi*Options[_]:active will only set it for the individual Targets. You should explicitly set the option for any userdefined Summary or Graph pages.

It sounds as if you want a 'active' userdefined graph to suppress inactive component Target lines. This should be the behaviour at the moment - and (just running a single test here now) it certainly seems to be doing this.

Hello Steve ,

...snip...
routers.cgi*Options[_]: active
routers.cgi*Summary[_]: active
routers.cgi*InOut[_]: active
routers.cgi*ShortDesc: MO-RTR01 Tok
routers.cgi*Desc: MO-RTR01 Tok Primary router to internal network
...snip...

With or without the [_] in Summary or InOut we get a greyed out graph in Summary mode .

...snip...
#routers.cgi*Options[_]: active
routers.cgi*Summary[_]: active
routers.cgi*InOut[_]: active
routers.cgi*ShortDesc: MO-RTR01 Tok
routers.cgi*Desc: MO-RTR01 Tok Primary router to internal network
...snip...

With this set we get a real graph that is empty in summary mode . as the interface is unplugged and has been for Oh say 18 Months or so . Addition: See sanitized mrtg.cfg file attached . it is interface 2 that show up as greyed out .

Tia , JimL
ps: How do I upload a file for attachment that when I get done I can see it in the post ? I uploaded a file & I can not find it here . Never mind I figured it out , it doesn't like .cfg extension .

As far as I can tell , When I add your suggested entries to all 'real' graphs there is no change to the offending item being graphed .
I have added a 'snapshot' of a browser view of the offense:-) in an attachemnt , As well as the sanitized .cfg .

If necessary I could also post the .rrd files . Your choice .

You will also notice that the addition of thos suggestions has overridden the ...

routers.cgi*InMenu[mo-rtr01_6]: No
routers.cgi*InSummary[mo-rtr01_6]: No
routers.cgi*InCompact[mo-rtr01_6]: No
routers.cgi*InOut[mo-rtr01_6]: No

for every definition .

Understood , I tried those two entries (ie: active) on that graph & I got the this graph doesn't exist or .rrd problem . But I only used it on the mo-rtr01_2I-IE definition .

That said I'm trying it again on the definitions you suggested ... That produced a 'Grey' graphic again .

Would definately like a copy of any pre-candidate I'll at least test that feature(:-) in full .

Hello Steve , Beta2 has cured the problem with the (imo) useless greyed out graphs .
The graphs being displayed are just the interfaces with IO going thru them now.
Which is just what we wanted . Thank you .
