For gigabit targets, in fact anything which may read >100Mb, youwill almost certainly have to use SNMPv2. Add ':::::2' at the end of your Target definition (see the MRTG manual in the Target[] part) to tell MRTG to use 64bit SNMPv2 to collect the data, not 32bit SNMPv1.

I am monitoring a port that has about 450mb of traffic in one direction, and about 100mb in the other.

The 100mb flow is graphing fine, but the 450mb is showing as crazy values, jumping up/down from near 0 to a little over 100mb. I have MaxBytes set to 1Gbps (125000000), so this doesn't seem to be the problem.

Rather, it seems clear to me that this is a counter overflow problem... So, SNMPv2 to the rescue, right?

Unfortunately, even after adding :::::2 to the target, and restarting MRTG, nothing changed. Same problem.

I was going to blame the router for lack of SNMPv2 support, but someone else at the company downloaded PRTG from the net, and they are graphing the data just fine. So, it would appear that it's my implementation of MRTG / RRDTool / Routers2 (running on Windows, unfortunately)

What kinds of things can I share with you, that would help you point me in the right direction?

How can I tell if my Net::SNMP is the right version to support v2c? Any other ideas?

I had problems with Debian's snmp not reporting Gig interfaces properly, and had to compile the most recent version of snmp myself.
If you figure out a way to set the interface to a different speed, it will just go back to -1 after the next remodel.
