Read the documentation in the HOWTO and the MRTG_INFO files.

You can set a target description in either the MRTG_INT_DESCR SetEnv definition, or in routers.cgi*ShortDesc[] for a target.

You can set the Device menu description in routers.cgi*ShortDesc: for the entire file.

routers2 does its best to work out a sensible label from all the different definitions in the cfg file, but will not requery the device.
