ever since i upgraded nagios, it doesn't seems to want to process the nagios.cmd

the event entries are getting into the file:

eg: nagios.cmd
[1254008046] PROCESS_SERVICE_CHECK_RESULT;jsb-pc2;EventLog Agent;2;HEARTBEAT [CRIT #2]: Service halting

but it is not getting into the console

eg: message.log

I never changed any of the cfg files. any ideas on what is happening?

nagios.cmd is supposed to be a pipe, not a file.

Stop nagios, run 'mv nagios.cmd nagios.sav' and restart nagios. You should see a 'nagios.cmd' created that is a 'p' special file. Then 'cat nagios.sav > nagios.cmd' and 'rm nagios.sav'.

This can sometimes happen if you are running other utilities (like nsca) that try to write to nagios.cmd when the nagios process is not running (and so the nagios.cmd pipe does not exist)

Also make sure the nagios process has write permission to the directory containing the nagios.cmd so it can (re)createit if necessary

thanks for the help. i think i know whats going on. In the previous version 3.06, for some reason it did not create the nagios.cmd file when I restarted so I created a script to do so. re:

/etc/init.d/nagios stop
/etc/init.d/postfix stop
/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg
/etc/init.d/postfix start
/etc/init.d/nagios start
rm /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd
touch /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd
chmod 666 /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd
chown nagios /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd
chgrp nagios /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd
ls -l /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd

this does not create the nagios.cmd with the pipe attribute.

BTW:

do you have a fix for the dll registering issue for 1.9.2 agent on windows server 2003 sp2? I know it's probably just a nag message.

Sorry, I don't have a fix for the DLL registering issue; I'm having problems working out just how to effectively create a resource DLL that will work for Windows messages like this (I'm a UNIX programmer really). It worked once in the past but no longer...

Fortunately it is only a cosmetic issue, although I admit its irritating. I just dont have the time at the moment to play with it.
