Okay, I admit I am fairly new to MRTG and everything I have so far if fairly vanilla.
basically I am monitoring Cisco switches and routers.
I am now trying to add some windows boxes to my myrouter.txt file to enable monitoring of these servers.
But when I add them and then run the update_my_routers.bat file I get this message in the server.cfg file and nothing appeaers in the gui on the web site.
Any help would be appreciated.

cfgmaker (the script which generates the configuration files for you) is commenting out this interface because it is the 'loopback' interface (virtual connection for internal use only). There should be other uncommented entries for the real physical interfaces.

how can I fix this?

Can you post the entire cfg file here? There should be at least two commented out interfaces including the one you have shown above, if your SNMP is working correctly. The comments should explain why it was commented out.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this:
I have confirmed this has only one enabled interface on the Windows server.

### The following interface is commented out because:
### * --ifref=name is not unique for this interface

This is why the interface was commented out by cfgmgr. You should try calling cfgmgr with a different --ifref option. This might be a bit harder to arrange with the MRTG bundle - I'm not sure exactly how they set it up to call cfgmgr.

The odd thing is that ifref=name /should/ be unique in this case. You've only got the one interface, after all. Possibly it is returning blank or something? Do you have a particularly unusual network interface here?

Very odd...
I set up a regular windows desktop box (nothing fancy) with a single nic. and tested it again.

still getting this, with everything commented out.

Any ideas what i can do..This is very frustrating; again I have no problems with my Cisco gear at all.

This is caused by a deficient SNMP agent on your Windows box... it is reporting the interface name (usually 'en0' or 'eth0' as a blank, and so the default way of identifying an interface (the name) doesnt work, and cfgmaker comments out the interface definition.

The best way to avoid this is the use a different --ifname= option when you call cfgmaker; later versions of cfgmaker allow you to specify a chain of different options, eg --ifref=ip,name,ifno and so on. CHeck the cfgmaker documentation for the available options (I dont have them to hand here)
