have tried MRTG bundle v2.1.0 a few days ago but I wanted to add an email alert feature. like when a threshold is met on an interface, it will trigger an email alert to my email address. Do I need to have external program like Blat to send email? pls. help how to do this, I'm not a programmer though tia |

Look in the MRTG manual for the Threshold settings. You can set thresholds, and an email recipient and the email server and it will send an email (you MUST have an SMTP mail server to accept the email, ask your mail admin if you dont know what this is). You dont need any external programs to do this, alhtough you can also trigger an general script to do anything else you prefer. thanks for the reply. Hope you could give me a specific answer what to edit in the mrtg bundle. i.e. mrtg file in the C:/mrtg/mrtg/bin?, btw the included mrtg version is 2.9.27. thanks again |

This is a very old version of MRTG -- the current is 2.16.2 -- and I cant remember how much of the thresholding notification code worked back then. You might like to consider upgrading - and upgrading RRDTool as well will give you better graphs, and you migth also want to upgrade the Routers2 version as there have been a number of improvements since the bundle was created in 2004. I don't actually use the bundle myself (we run unix here) but I remember that it autogenerates the configuration files - this means you'd get them overwritten if you made changes to them to add the thresholding commands and then regenerate the configs. I've been hoping that Chris at Open Innovations would update the bundle to the new versions of the software sometime, but it seems not to have happened (possibly he has left the company?) and there is no visible support for the 'glue' scripts he's created to generate the configurations. Anyone else here using the Bundle who can help? |

seems got no choice but to manualy create my own. btw, any good doc that shows how to upgrade the MRTG version, RRDTool and router2? I'm a newbie so in the learning process...sorry. tia |

Hi again, I followed everything on your given blog but I still got this error: cannot find RRDs.pm in C:/Perl/site/lib C:/Perl/lib . details: RRDs library NOT FOUND. This may however not be a problem if the library path is amended by the LibAdd birective in the MRTG files. Can't locate loadable object for module RRDs in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl/site/lib C:/Perl/lib .) at c:\mrtg\wwwroot\index.cgi line 8602 Compilation failed in require at c:\mrtg\wwwroot\index.cgi line 8602. GD library not required as operating in StyleSheet mode Any help on what to do pls. tia |

This says that the RRDTool library is not found in the standard Perl library path, indicating that you haven't installed it correctly. However, as it also states, this might not be an issue if you have explicitly given its location in the LibAdd: directives in the MRTG cfg files. I would suggest you obtain and install the latest RRDTool perl libraries for Windows from here http://oss.oetiker.ch/rrdtool/pub/?M=D The one you want is the -win32- file (assuming you dont have 64bit windows) and either the Perl 5.8 or the perl 5.10 (depending on which perl you have installed). If you're using the Bundle, then it is probably the 5.8 rrdtool-1.2.15-win32-perl58.zip You can also get v1.2.23 form the GKNW repository with: ppm rep add "GKNW PPM Repo" http://www.gknw.net/development/perl/MSWin32-x86/5.8/ and then use ppm to install it: ppm install RRDs |

ah i see, I got myself perl 5.12. I will try to uninstall/install 5.10 instead then let you know if it fixed. thanks |
