I have installed MRTG bundle 2.1.0 Currently and i think it was by default, it is polling all the devices every minute. I want to change it to every 5 minutes. I tried by changing the "Interval = 5" it was "Interval = 1" in the CFG file for the device - but it did not work. Can you please help? thanks |

You will need to restart the MRTG daemon after doing this. Also, you will need to delete the existing RRD files so that they can be recreated with a 1-minute interval. |

How to Restart MRTG Daemon? May be a silly quesiton - The thing is i have installed the MRTG bundle and and when i tried to change the polling inerval from 1 to 5 mins i changed th following parameters: in the device.cfg file i changed the inteval: 5 and in routers2.conf file i changed the "minrefreshtime: 300" then i tried "Perl mrtg device.cfg" command (I thought this is the way to restart the Daemon) - it gave me an error saying that i have to add LibAdd in the config file. I did that and then run the commnad again - now the error was - It can not fine rrds.dll file - and specified modules can not be found. I have spent lots of time already on this and getting confuse with if i should use MRTG bundle or should i install every component for MRTG seperately on my own. Can you tell me which way is better for a network where i might need to add and remove devices all the time. thanks |

Most people find the bundle is the easiest install as it just includes everything pre-configured, although you do end up with old versions of the software. Upgrading the RRD library and Routers2 helps but can open you up to potential problems. It all depends on your level of expertise - Linux and all manually installed is the most flexible but requires knowledge. With the bundle, most is pre-configured and automated for you, but you lose flexibility (eg it is much more difficult to change the polling interval, for example) I dont use the bundle install or Windows myself, but if I remember right the bundle installs MRTG as a windows service, so you can stop and start it like you would for any windows service. If it is set to use a scheduler instead of a daemon you'll need to change the timing config in the scheduler instead. The minrefreshtime in routers2.conf should not be set unless you want to delay refreshes of the web page. Otherwise do not set it as it overrides the autorefreh which normally is auto set to the RRA interval. Setting interval:1 in the cfg file only affects the daemon and newly created rrd files. Existing RRD files are not changed to a different interval. |
