Hello, We plan to use MRTG Bundle on our new Monitoring Server but we have massive Problems during the Installation. We´ve tried to install MRTG Bundle on a Virtual Machine and the Install Script worked fine, installing on a real machine crashes. The used OS is Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 x64. Attached you will find a screenshot showing the errors while installing. I ask myself what fork failed means... I hope you can help me Greetings from Germany

"Fork failed" means that it cannot spawn a new process/thread. This may be down to your version of Windows - I know 2003 has a whole lot more 'security' settings that can prevent things from running as expected. I also know that Open Innovations (who make the bundle - email them directly on their web site) are planning on making a new bundle as the old one is very out of date. Hopefully the new bundle will be tested on 2003! I've not heard of this particular install problem before though, anyone else installed the Bundle on 2003? Your other option is to do it by hand. The ISO image of the Companion CD (free from http://www.steveshipway.org/book/ ) has the windows versions of RRDtool, Perl, and Apache for installing plus MRTG and Routers2. It would be a bit more work, though |

Hi, today i will reinstall the Servers OS, maybe without the R2 Components. I hope MRTG Bundle will run then. If even that fails, im going to do it by hand by using Companion CD. I will post a report if it works or not Greetings from Germany |

the same problem at all.... i think there is a problem with the srvany.exe in the 64 bit version of server 2003. the mrtg bundle installer can not handle the srvany.exe and because of that the installation failes... |

I suspect the MRTG bundle will not work with 64bit, since 64bit usually needs a different version of the binaries! Maybe OpenInnovations will make a 64bit version of their next bundle version? The Bundle is now quite far behind in package versions so it needs to be updated; emailing the bundle admin at Open Innovations with a polite request that he recreate it might help. |

Just comment the 2nd line in shellscript.sh : #WINROOT=`echo $SystemRoot | cut -c 4-`. Oh yeah, and buy me a beer if it works |
