We are attempting to roll navelog out to ~250 servers via SMS. We have struck an issue with the installer which on our systems fails with a shared library error right near the end. Still works fine though. Pushing the inno installer via SMS looks difficult. Would it be possible to post a zip file of the directory used to create the installer? This way we could hopefully create an MSI installer which we would be more than happy to post back to you. Thanks again.

This is a known problem with the version of the the installer packager I used; I've updated to the latest version and will create a new package (1.9.2) which should not have this error. Hopefully this week...

I am still interested in creating a MSI package - feedback from MSI packages works better with SMS (so my SMS administrator tells me.). I will have a go at creating an MSI from what I have avalible. Will post my success or otherwise incase anybody is interested.

I've repackaged using the latest version of ISS, so this should solve the problem.

There is a possibility that you'll get warnings when the package tries to register the msgdll (I've not managed to make this work correctly yet) but if this happens then you can ignore them. This also includes the various DLLs includes in the msvcredist package so it should work on virgin machines (but Ive said that before)

Not tried the iss installer yet - I am under strict orders from our SMS admin that we either use an MSI or batch files.

SMS is not my bag so I have to listen to him.

I'll see if I can work out how to create an MSI package. The ISS installer is nice, though, as I can make it obtain registry info and so on...

Hi there,

I have built a couple of MSI installers before. With the tools that I had to hand it was pretty hard. I did not have access to visual studio.

I have created a batch file to install nagelog on our servers which is in turn part of a SMS package. I copy the various dlls over to c:\windows\system32 and the program directory as specified in your iss script. I do not register them. It looks like they only need to be registered for the GUI to work. I figure that if the GUI does not work on a server it is no great effort to run a batch file to manualy register the files as access to the GUI is first required.

It would still be pretty sexy if you could build an MSI which does not display errors.
