Th 997 error is a generic Winsock message, which usually (but not always) indicates that the remote end has hung up on us or is unreachable.
This looping error message you mention SHOULD already be being trapped - any messages logged by the NagEventLog agent are supposedly filtered out in all cases. Clearly something else is going on. The message gets logged with a Source 'NagiosEventLog', which is excluded in filter.c (this is why debug mode doesnt cause a flurry of reports as it generates hundreds of logged messages). I'll check, maybe I have a typo in one of the logging functions.

eventlog.c, line 358 is where NagiosEventLog filters out its own messages. Looks OK, but I'll do some tests. You seem to be getting messages caught that should be filtered out...
