Here, we run both routers2.cgi/MRTG/RRD and Nagios. We use the pNSClient agent (under windows) and the NRPE agent (under UNIX), as well as SNMP on the network devices.
Using the scritps supplied with routers2.cgi, we can let MRTG query the Nagios NRPE and pNSClient agents for data, as well.
We use the nagios.cgi plugin for routers2.cgi to enable the various Devices to include links to embed their current nagios service status pages into the routers2.cgi display frame.
Using the hostextinfo.cfg file in Nagios, we define a URL for each host that links to the Summary page for that device in routers2.cgi.
We have a pile of template files for Nagios and MRTG configuration, and a master program builds the Nagios and MRTG configuration files by taking these templates, automatically adding all the linking commands.
Finally, we use the pdfreport.cgi plugin for routers.cgi and also the pdfreport.cgi script for Nagios (which requires the Nagios perl libraries) to generate PDF-based management reports for host and hostgroups.
Still in the works are a couple of other projects:
NAQCD: Nagios Agent Query Cache Daemon. This will cache queries to pnsclient and nrpe to make it more efficient, also batching requests for even more efficiency.
Change the configuration generation program to make MRTG 'pseudo-devices' for hostgroups (eg, a web server farm) that hold userdefnied summary graphs over all the hosts in the group.
