Hi Steve, i found your Script on Nagiosexchange and i will use it for my ESX Enviroment 3.0 My Monitoring Hostsystem is a Nagios 3.0.2 on Debian Sarge 4.0 I have problems with your short Install Manual I have take the follow Stepts: 1: Change the Configurationfile snmpd.conf <- no problem 2. copy the vmware-stats script on the ESX in the right directory /etc/snmp 3. copy the check_esx2 file on the Nagios Hostsystem to /libexec But now what did you meen with change the perl location and statefile? Must i change this, or can i change this? The perl location on my Nagios Monitoring host is /usr/lib/perl/5.8 i found my perl file under /usr/bin/perl right? When i start your ./check_esx2 script i became the follow error: nagios:/usr/local/nagios/libexec# ./check_esx2 Can't locate Net/SNMP.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at ./check_esx2 line 26. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./check_esx2 line 26. Now i looked in line 26 and found use Net::SNMP; What is my problem? I use SNMP and the follow Components are installed: libsnmp9 5.2.3-7etch2 libsnmp-base 5.2.3-7etch2 snmp 5.2.3-7 Please help me, i need this monitoring feature I have download the lasted version of your check:esx2 greetings Ckey |

The check_esx2 script is run on your Nagios server (of course). The first line in the script specifies the location of perl on your nagios server - this is probably right already, but may need to be changed depending on your system. Another line near the top defines the location of your Nagios state file, which is found under nagios/logs or similar, depending on your installation. This needs to be set as well. The Net::SNMP error you get shows that the Perl package Net::SNMP has not been installed on your system, and it is a prerequisite of the check_esx2 script. You will need to install this - in Linux, the package is usually called 'net-snmp-perl' or similar. Otherwise, use 'perl -MCPAN -e shell' and then give the command 'install Net::SNMP', which should download from the internet, compile and install the module and any dependencies. |

Version 3 is currently in development (actually, development has been stalled for many months now, and is being done 99% by the nice people at Groundwork Opensource) and will properly support ESX3.0 and 3.5 (only). This will be radically different (uses the esxtop rather than /proc method). This should have better documentation. |

Sorry, no project website, this is not being public until we have a working beta that can be published. |

Thank you very much for your reply. We ESX Admins are very happy with the work you guys are doing, keep up the good work. Can't wait for the final files. Is there anything we can do to help you? I would offer to help testing and reviewing. I am not that big in programming, but I am willing to dive into the subject. And 99% sounds very promising |

Its more that they're doing 99% of the work than that they're 99% complete
