| Post subject: | Use of backup daemon for 2nd NSCA server |
Hi I have setup a backup nagios server. I do not intend to use it unless the main nagios server goes down; at which point it will be started up. This will be fine for the active checks but I'm not so sure about the NSCA Eventlog passive checks. I have defined the backup NSCA daemon in the Eventlog Agent. Am I right to assume that when the 1st server goes offline the event checks will seemlessly switch over to go to the 2nd backup server (and happily run like this until the 1st server id brought back up)? Regards Ewan |

This is what is supposed to happen, although I admit I havent extensively tested it. The way I did the failover for our two servers is to have a virtual IP address which is added to the main network interface; the second server will add this IP if it is not seen on the network. I've used LinuxHA to make the switchover work correctly. This way I only have a single IP to worry about. |

Steve Thanks. I shall see what happens when I test it. Ewan |
