Fresh install of bundle 2.1.0 went fairly smooth on windows 2000. now that it is up and running, i noticed that the cisco 4507's for each floor show only the VLAN's and not the ports. Below is an example. The main 6509 switches, however, show all ports and no VLAN's..... I would think the cores would show the vlan traffic and the floors just the ports.

What can I change to get each switch to show all ports and then set up a page for VLAN's only?

On the 6509s, which dont show the VLANs, check in the .cfg files and see if the targets are there but commented out. Similarly, on the 4507s, see if the ports are there but commented out. If they are, there should be a preceeding comment to tell you *why* they are commented out.

On some switches, the SNMP returns non-unique port names and you have to use port numbers. When you call cfgmaker, pass different ifref parameters and see if this helps.

Finally, if you get it all working and showing all the ports, you can use the routers2 special functions to group the VLAN and port graphs, if you want. You will need to edit the .cfg file and either add routers.cgi*Summary[] definitions (to make special summary pages with multiple graphs on one page) or routers.cgi*Graph[] definitions (to make userdefined graphs with multiple lines on one graph). If you do this, you shoul make sure that you dont overwrite the file in the future with cfgmaker.

On the 6509's, VLAN's show no speed and are therefore, commented out. However, the 4507's do not report on the ports at all...just the interfaces with a VLAN. So, I would see interface 16, 17 and then jump to 37. As long as there is a VLAN associated with it.

I made a change to the updatescriptshell.sh (I assume this is where changes to cfgmaker are made) ifref=name and type to just ifref=nr....all my graphs are now blank and I still get the VLAN's on one and ports on the other switch. I still have the old 4507.cfg files from the last few months that did not use rrdtool, I will try using these and making the changes within to reflect the rrdtool path and library...sorta cut/paste.

I have the old-school MRTG setup that didn't use rrdtool or a webserver...just made mrtg.bat, cfgmaker.bat and indexer.bat.

With the bundle installed, which files can changes to cfgmaker and indexmaker be found? I think they are in the Update...sh files and batch files, but not sure if they are in others.

Well....not eager to admit this, but I was using the IP address of the VLAN and not the switch interface...

left them in the crontab and still get results so figure it might come in handy some time.

I can hack with the best of them....end result is usually to revert back to the original and call it good. So, I'd need a couple of years before attempting to add/move/change what you and Tobi have done!

The product you've provided is exceptional! You represent what IT folks have been doing for years...doing the best with what you've got and with no financial support!

Not many professions that are willing to put this much effort or so hard and then share what they finish. So, when you're done with that fat tire, you deserve one (years worth) on the house!

but, with respect to your reply, the more I work with the product, the more I understand about the way perl works and the way the code you provided works.

I'll keep watching this forum and breaking stuff so thanx again for your support and all the others who provide support.
