Hi,

I just installed an NRPE daemon and Nagios plugin to my Linux server so I can monitor it remotely by mrtg. Im trying to use the mrtg-nrpe.sh and mrtg-nrpe.pl to the host server to collect the data to my linuxserver, but as it is it doesnt collect any data at all. I used to read the script as it is it requires SSL connection to the remote NRPE daemon. Can I connect to non-SSL to the remote nrpe daemon? How can I bypass that thru your script? the -n option doesnt work as i've tried.

The NRPE daemon is either always-SSL or never-SSL (depending on whether the daemon was run with the -n flag or not). Of course, you could be clever and run the SSL vesion on 5666 and the non-SSL version on 5665, or similar. It is not possible for you to connect to the daemon with non-SSL unless the daemon was started non-SSL (the -n flag, which unfortunately is undocumented).

For SSL to work you'll need the SSL libraries at both ends, of course.

We have some servers here running non-SSL and some running with SSL. The mrtg-nrpe.pl plugin can query both, as long as it is given the -n flag where needed. It cannot query the SSL servers with non-SSL though.

I used to compile the remote nrpe daemon with --disable-ssl but still my check_nrpe cannot connect to the remote host running nrpe daemon.
I used to run check_nrpe with -n (non-ssl).

Im still receiving this error :
"No data returned: wrong SSL option, or IP address not authorised?"

Any Idea why?

A few things to check --

1) If you are using -n on the check_nrpe, make sure your nrpe daemon is also started with -n. This may be necessary even if you have not compiled with the SSL enabled.
2) On the server end, make sure you dont have tcp wrappers or xinetd set to reject your check_nrpe IP address
3) On the server end, check the nrpe.cfg and make sure you dont have the client IP restricted (if not using inetd)
