Thanks to help from Ralf Vroomen, it looks like we may have been able to get routers.cgi working with the speedycgi utility. For those of you who don't know, speedycgi runs under UNIX and precompiles and prestarts a Perl script in order to get faster performance. routers.cgi never used to work with it due to variable scoping issues. The current version will work if you use this shebang line: #!/usr/bin/speedy -- -M10 -r1 but I have a version here that seems to work without the -r1 requirement. The speed improvement is quite amazing. Anyone wanting to try it out, the trick is to change the non-constant my() definitions at the beginning to our() and initialise them to blank. Steve |

Why? ActivePerl 5.8.2.808 is available for M$ users. And it's their choice to run the M$ OS, not ours |

Of course, this has only been tested under Linux, not under M$. So maybe it doesnt work there. Also, if I remember correctly, speedycgi is only available under UNIX in any case:?: |

Got this working this morning with v2.13 on our system that tracks data gathering from HP/IBM/SUN boxes. The overall effect was to speed this system's redisplay up by about a factor of 2. From about 12 seconds for the initial front-page visit to 6 seconds. Stuart |

<:?:> Steve, why exactly is Perl 5.8 needed? Which new functions does it have you need that a lower version does not have? </:?:> |
