UPDATE: RRDTool v1.2 is now supported by routers2 version 2.16 and later.

Now that v1.2 of RRDTool has been released, I'm starting to get questions about routers2 compatibility with it.

At the current date, routers2 has NOT been tested with the RRDTool v1.2.x perl library. However, from reading the RRD v1.2 documentation, it appears that there should be no problems with routers2 running using the 1.2 RRDs library.

People upgrading RRD should note that any .rrd files created by RRD v1.2 cannot be read with rrd v1.0 and so if upgrading your MRTG RRD, you should also upgrade the Perl RRDs module used by routers2.

The new features of RRD v1.2 (percentile lines in the graphs, more efficient calculations, new graphing options, trending support etc) are not used by routers2 (yet). In the future, I hope to be able to include a test for v1.2 and (if found) use different calculation options. However, it may become necessary to drop support for RRD v1.0 after routers.cgi v2.16; in this case there will be advanced notice given.

Once routers2 version 2.16 has been released, I will start work on the RRD v1.2 compatibility checks.

Until such time as routers2 is fully tested under RRD v1.2.x, I would advise routers2 users to stick with RRD Version 1.0.x.

Finally, I have rrdtool v.12.12 installed here for testing. It looks a lot better than 1.0.x in the graphics! A bit more hassle installing, though.

So far, v2.17 of routers2 works fine with it, except that I needed to make a test in the time-popup javascript code since the graph layout is slightly changed (by 8 pixels). You've not got that code in the live version, anyways.

I'm planning on adding CSS support, if possible, and then looking into getting the prediction lines enabled if routers2 finds the correct RRAs available.

Looks like the trending plugin (trend.cgi) has some problems with rrd 1.2. I'll try to get this sorted shortly for 2.17. Until then, you probably cannot use trend.cgi with rrd 1.2.
