In the quote below Mr. Owen suggests using Tobi's smoke-ping for a am I alive type monitoring &/or adjacent with mrtg . My question is how easily (or not) can routers.cgi be used with smoke-ping (& family) ? In particular smoke-ping-2.3.5 and the 'Cropper' facility . Can it be expanded to be used on the rrd graphs created thru mrtg ? But , in what little reading I've done smoke-ping looks to use a completely differant interface than mrtg . In the newer releases, it has a nice feature that lets you "on the fly" select a slice of time or manually input a date/time range as small as one step wide. The higher the time resolution, the blockier the graph, but for what your talking about, you could zoom into a 5 min section of time, see that avg packet loss was 100% for a couple minutes and that everything was fine before & after. Completely different. AFAIK there is no way to integrate the two. |

Correct. Smokeping stores data in a completely different way. routers2 is for MRTG data (or RRD files that look exactly like MRTG data) However, if you only want to integrate them, you can add links to the smokeping pages from the routers2 pages using the routers2.cgi*Extension: directives to add a new link to the Targets menu that takes yu to the smokeping pages. You might need to create a wrapper for it or open it in a separate frame though. |
